Hey there! We are so glad you stopped by.
Welcome to Two Make a Home! We are Charlie and Jessica Young, a married couple with three amazing kids, that want to share with you our excitement for creating a cozy, functional, and affordable home. While you are here, feel free to look around at some of our projects. Hopefully you and your spouse will find just the inspiration and instruction you need to get started on making your home together!
If you want to keep up with what we are doing, be sure to join us on Pinterest or Facebook or sign up for our newsletter.
Hi I’m the female counterpart to this DIY duo, and I am so excited to be able to share little bits of what make our house a home. It seems like we are always brainstorming ways to make our home cozy, and because we value family and home so much we thought why not share our home with you.
We live a practical life which means I love all things DIY. “Can we build it! Yes we can!” Excuse me for busting out the Bob the Builder theme song. (Please tell me some of you can relate this.) Although children’s TV shows or songs seem to take over my brain some days, it’s an ever constant reminder that one of the greatest joys I have is being a stay at home mommy to three beautiful kids. Since I spend a lot of time at home (especially winter days here in ND), it’s that much more crucial that I love the home we live in and enjoy the time we share together in it.
Our home runs pretty smoothly (let’s be real, we definitely have our moments), but with having three children, I embrace (ahem possibly obsess over) being an organized home. It helps our family a lot.
Because our children are still young, we are blessed to be able to sit down and eat our suppers together. We eat real food, and by that I mean we enjoy our butter and indulge in the sweeter things in life-dessert! Baking (okay okay then eating) is my stress reliever, and I hope to share some great recipes with you!
I never really used to consider myself creative. Then one day I realized that my favorite days were the Saturdays that I spent working on my house or some other project. On these days I started with a vision in my head and ended with a completed project (or at least one that was on its way to being completed). Thinking about it, this pattern goes back to my childhood. Although it has manifested itself in many different ways, I’ve always been building things.
After we got married and bought our first house, turning it into a home became THE focus of my creativity. We couldn’t (and still can’t!) afford to pay someone to make our vision of “home” come true. So even though I started with little knowledge and a really humble tool collection, I was not deterred from learning and making do with what I had to unleash our creative ideas on that house.
We moved into our current house in 2011. It was new construction and although I did most of the finish work myself, there just wasn’t enough time (or money) to make it all that we wanted right away. So we settled for basic then and are still shaping it into the home that we want. What we “want” seems to be an ever-moving target, so I’m not sure that it will ever be done!
