There is No Velcro on the Swiffer WetJet Pad

When you went to check if the velcro was dirty, did you find that there was no velcro there at all? Over time, the sticky back of the velcro can stop being sticky, meaning the velcro would just fall right off. It’s possible it’s from too much cleaner, or just normal wear and tear, but I know that it’s annoying whatever the reason.

But before running out and buying a new Swiffer WetJet, I would suggest buying some velcro strips. You can find them at many stores and they are way less expensive than going out and getting a new WetJet. It’s annoying for a product like this to suddenly just be broken in this way, but trying to fix it before fully replacing it is worth a shot.

The Swiffer WetJet Slots are Stretched

Some models of Swiffer WetJets have slits on the top that kind of look like teeth. You then fold the pads and push part of it into the four slots on top of it. But over time, those slots can get stretched out. And there is not much you can do to fix them, seeing as you can’t make them tighter and they aren’t really replaceable. But one thing you can do is use a washcloth instead of a pad.

Not only will this save you money long-term, it means that you don’t have to replace it right away. Washcloths are thicker than the pads so they will stay in that slot, and they are washable. Instead of just tossing a dirty pad in the trash, you wash the washcloth and use it again. I would recommend switching the washcloth after every use because they do soak up the cleaner in a different way than the pads.

Generic Pads

I am all about saving money. And I know a lot of people are the same. But sometimes saving money just isn’t worth it. The generic pads may be a lot less expensive, and I mean a whole lot less expensive in some cases, but they don’t always work. Sure, they will clean just fine, but that is if they stick onto the Swiffer WetJet at all.

Sometimes the generic pads are made for the generic Swiffers, the ones the stores make to try to make more money for the store itself. It’s annoying, especially if you have a whole box of unused ones, but there isn’t really anything you can do to make them stick if they are generic pads. Sometimes saving money is definitely worth it, but sometimes it’s not.

Old Swiffer WetJet Pad

Yes, you can reuse the Swiffer WetJet pads. But how many times have you reused your current pad? If you don’t even have a number that pops into your head, it’s probably time to replace it. The old pads will begin to not be able to really clean because they don’t have room for any more dirt.

The cleaner will also soak through the pad eventually when it just can’t hold any more liquid, which is why it will stop sticking. The velcro doesn’t work well when exposed to a ton of liquid, it won’t be able to do its job of holding on to the pad. An old pad will keep falling off, and possibly not go back on at all. If the current pad you’re using is super dirty and not stick the WetJet anymore, getting a new pad will hopefully solve the problem.

The WetJet Pad is Too Wet

The more cleaner you spray, the cleaner the floors will be, right? Actually, using too much cleaner could be the reason the pads aren’t sticking. All of the cleaner gets soaked into the pad, which is normal to an extent. But once there is too much cleaner the pad just can’t soak up anymore and it will start to leak and get heavy. Instead of spraying a ton of cleaner on all of your floors, remember that you don’t need to. The pads soak up the cleaner and are able to use the liquid it collects to clean the floors. Sometimes you will still need to spray, it’s kind of important to get the floors clean. But you don’t need to do an excessive amount of spraying everywhere. Do a squirt or two and see how far that gets you before spraying more. Sometimes a little can go a long way, and, trust me, this is definitely one of those times.
